All the features of Ovemio
Live TV, movies, series, radio and your own library, on a TV box, phone and PC. Every function is listed here one by one.
Television
Live TV with an electronic programme guide (EPG)
The channel list shows what’s on now and what’s coming next, with progress bars and timings. The TV guide is provided by the service provider (Xtream Codes, XMLTV) and is updated in the background.
Timeshift: Pause and rewind live TV
Programmes currently being broadcast can be paused and rewound. The buffer is located on the device.
Catch-up: catch up on missed programmes
Programmes from the last few days are played back from the TV guide, provided the broadcaster offers a catch-up service.
Admissions, immediate or planned
A programme currently being broadcast can be recorded at the touch of a button. Upcoming programmes can be scheduled using the TV guide. Recordings are stored in a dedicated section.
Fast switching with a self-regulating buffer
The app continuously monitors the performance of the set-top box and the connection, and automatically adjusts the buffer size and video path. There is no setting that the viewer needs to adjust manually. If you wish, you can set fixed values.
Audio and subtitle tracks
The language and subtitles can be switched whilst the video is playing, with legible names instead of numbers. Subtitles from the stream and external subtitle files are displayed.
Radio from the public directory
Radio stations are sourced from the open directory ‘Radio Browser’. The user selects their stations, and the app saves only this list.
Channel logos and programme images
Logos and images are loaded once and then stored on the device. When the app starts up, it retrieves the list from the cache rather than reloading everything.
Films and TV series
Details, cast and trailer
For every film and TV series, there is a poster, a synopsis, the running time, a rating, an age rating and the cast, complete with photos of the actors. Trailers are available on YouTube. The information is sourced from TMDB.
Other films featuring the same actor
Clicking on a name in the cast list shows which other films and series featuring that person are available in our catalogue.
Different quality versions of the same film together
If a provider carries a film more than once (4K, Full HD, HD), the app shows it once and offers the quality as a choice.
Carry on watching on any device
The app remembers per profile where a film or an episode was stopped. That position is synchronised end-to-end encrypted between devices, so you can carry on watching on the box what you started on the phone.
Binge mode with end-credits detection
When the credits start rolling, the app counts down and starts the next episode. Pressing the Back button cancels this.
Download and watch offline
Films and episodes are downloaded to the device and can be watched later without an internet connection. If a download is interrupted, it will resume from where it left off.
A search for everything
A search box finds films, TV programmes, channels, recordings and your own collection, and tells you where each item was found.
Personal collection and NAS
Films, TV programmes and images from the device or from your home network, including those from a password-protected SMBshare. The app reads folder and file names and retrieves posters to go with them.
Order and Family
Profiles with a face of their own
Each profile has its own colour, design, language, wish list and history. Switching to a profile with no age restriction is protected by a PIN.
Child protection through age ratings
Every profile has a highest age rating. Anything above it is never even loaded in that profile.
Categories as you want them
Categories can be hidden, reordered and renamed. The provider's list is only the starting point.
Adult section
Either hidden completely or with its own lock. The choice is up to the user.
Favourites and Watchlist
Channels, films and TV series are saved for each profile and appear at the top.
Sources and formats
Xtream Codes, M3U, the portal and your own files
Sources include Xtream– code-based access, M3U– and M3U8– lists, Stalker– portals with MAC addresses, as well as files from the device or the network. Multiple sources run in parallel.
Set-up by QR code
A QR code appears on the TV box. The credentials are typed on the phone, and the box takes them over in seconds. No spelling things out with the remote control.
Two playback paths
Live TV is streamed via the Android hardware decoder (ExoPlayer). If a stream fails there, the app switches to libmpv. Films in HEVC 10-bit use the hardware decoder. The user does not need to change any settings.
Technology and comfort
VPN built in
Up to three ‘OpenVPN’ accounts can be stored in the app, where they can be enabled or disabled. No additional software is required on the set-top box.
Performance test with a seal of quality
At the touch of a button, it measures the set-top box’s frame rate, memory and processing load, and gives an honest picture of what the device is capable of. The result helps you decide whether 4K is worth it.
Adjust the picture
The hardware decoder, video path and render size can be adjusted if a less powerful device requires it. The system selects the appropriate settings automatically.
In-app support, encrypted
Enquiries are sent directly to your own provider. The chat is end-to-end encrypted. An error report detailing the device, version and measurement values can be included on request.
Updates without the Store
The app announces new versions itself and installs them on request. No Play Store is needed for it.
24 languages, per profile
The interface is available in 24 languages. The language is selected on a per-profile basis, not just per device.
Designed for remote control
Each screen can be navigated using the four arrow keys and the OK button. On mobile phones and PCs, you can use touch, the mouse and the keyboard.
Android TV, Android, Windows
The app runs on any Android TV or Google TV device, including televisions from Sony, Xiaomi, Hisense or Philips, as well as on set-top boxes and Nvidia Shield, and also on Fire TV, on Android mobile phones and tablets, and as an installer on Windows. An iOS version is in the pipeline.
Licence
Buy once, three devices, updates to major version 1 included
A licence is valid permanently for three devices of your choice, freely spread across box, phone and PC. There is no subscription. Every update to major version 1 (releases 1.x) is included; a future major version 2 would be a separate product. Before buying, the app can be tried free for 24 hours.
Own brand for suppliers
Large-scale customers receive the app under their own name and logo, complete with licence management, support chat and remote maintenance via the BigC support app.
No content included
Ovemio It does not provide any channels, films or playlists. The app is a media player for sources that the user enters themselves, and for which they are responsible for ensuring their legality.
